Great Blue Heron makes a catch!

This Great Blue Heron jumped into the water quicker than I could take a shot.  I did happen to get a few after his catch.  What a graceful bird even when in a struggle with a huge fish.  He studied his prize for a while, then tilted his head back and made the big gulp.  He made sure that the fish was heading head first down his throat.  After a few sips of water off the pond he went back to looking normal again.  Instead of a fish shape in his neck.

Small Gator at Mays Pond

This little gal floats around the pond relaxing in the sun.  I'd say shes around 4-5 feet long.  You can usually see her on the other side of the pond but shes not always there.  The pond has no outlet so anything coming through to the pond... like an alligator, isn't from the pond, and is most likely just passing through.  In addition to possibly seeing a gator you will see Snowy egrets, great egrets, great blue heron, and all sorts of other birds.  You'll also see a lot of turtles.

Little blue heron

I think this is a little blue heron.  He was waiting around the main pond for something to eat.  Its interesting how there is always something stalking the pond when I go by.  Whether it be a green heron, egrets, great blue.... there is always something going on at the pond!
